Basic Country Beef Breakfast Sausage

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound Ground Beef (96% lean)
  2. 2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage or 1/2 teaspoon rubbed sage
  3. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  4. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  6. 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine Ground beef and seasonings in large bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Form mixture into patties or use as crumbles following directions below.
  2. To make patties, lightly shape beef mixture into four 1/2-inch thick patties. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Add patties; cook 10 to 12 minutes or until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F, turning occasionally.
  3. To prepare crumbles, heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Add beef mixture; cook 8 to 10 minutes, breaking into 3/4-inch crumbles and stirring occasionally.

This recipe can be doubled. Use immediately or freeze in 1-pound portions for 2 to 3 weeks. To use, defrost beef sausage in refrigerator overnight and cook as directed.

great sausage, tastes like what you buy from the store, only it's beef and lean. Don't overcook.
