Be BOLD with Beef!
Heart health is certainly top-of-mind these days.
- The health and media communities are ready for American Heart Month in February.
- Recently, the US News & World Report recognized the DASH diet, the gold standard for heart-healthy diets, as the “Best Overall Diet” and “Best Diet for Healthy Eating” in their annual best diets list.
- And in the January issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a BOLD new twist on the DASH diet – substituting lean beef for white meat – improved heart disease risk factors across the board.
The Beef in an Optimal Lean Diet (BOLD) study, conducted by researchers at The Pennsylvania State University, found consuming lean beef daily as part of a heart-healthy diet lowered LDL “bad” cholesterol by 10 percent, which was just as effective as the DASH diet.1 This research provides convincing support that nutrient-rich lean beef can be an everyday part of a heart-healthy diet.
