Mason Jar Beef Bowls

Say goodbye to takeout and hello to flavor! This quick and easy Beef Broccoli Jar adds layers of savory beef, crunchy broccoli, and fluffy rice to fix those afterschool cravings!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound thinly sliced Flank Steak or Ground Beef (80% Lean or Leaner)
  • 2 cups rice wine vinegar
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce 
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
Toppings (optional):
  • White or black sesame seeds and orange zest

Cooking:


  1. Combine rice wine vinegar and carrots in medium bowl; set aside to pickle.
  2. To prepare sauce, stir together beef broth, oyster sauce, soy sauce, cornstarch, sugar, rice vinegar and sesame oil in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add broccoli and stir-fry 2 to 3 minutes or until crisp-tender. Add garlic and ginger, stir-fry an additional minute until fragrant. Remove from skillet; set aside.
  4. In same skillet, add remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add beef and cook 4 to 5 minutes, or until an internal temperature of 145°F for medium rare as measured by a meat thermometer. Pour prepared sauce over beef; cook an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Divide rice, carrots, beef and broccoli evenly and layer in each jar. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and orange zest, if desired.
