Nutritious Meets Summer: Try This Tri-Tip Recipe

By: Lauren Twigge, RD

As the temperatures start to rise, so do the number of family BBQ nights in our house. I’m partnering with the Beef Checkoff, funded by beef farmers and ranchers, to kick off the summer grilling season with these delicious Tri-Tip and Street Corn Rice Bowls, a meal the whole family can enjoy.

In our home, summer BBQs almost always center around a great cut of beef. Not only is it my husband’s favorite protein to grill, but beef also serves as a flavorful, satisfying foundation for so many meals.

These bowls feature perfectly grilled tri-tip served over jasmine rice with a fresh street corn topping and a Cilantro Avocado Dressing. It’s a balanced, family-friendly meal that’s just as nourishing as it is delicious, providing high-quality protein and 9 other essential nutrients, like iron and zinc. Topped with the fiber rich street corn, this beef bowl can help fuel those busy summer days.

One of the best parts about this recipe? It can be served family-style, making it easy to customize for everyone at the table—from babies and kids to adults, including those who may prefer smaller portions, like individuals on a GLP-1 journey.

Let’s get to the recipe!

Why BBQ with Beef?

No matter which cut you choose, grilling is one of the most flavorful and enjoyable ways to prepare beef. It also checks so many boxes when it comes to building a satisfying summer meal:

Beef offers:

  • Versatility – From classic burgers with ground beef to grilled steaks and tri-tip, beef works for everything from casual weeknights to elevated gatherings. It pairs well with a wide range of flavors—from fresh salads to creamy sides to bold, spicy dishes like the street corn in this recipe.
  • Value – There are a variety of beef cuts available at different price points, making it easy to find an option that fits your budget while still delivering a great grilling experience. In fact, lean cuts like sirloin and tri-tip are often more affordable options that still deliver great flavor on the grill. Here’s another tip-slice lean cuts extra thin after grilling for an even more tender bite.
  • Family-friendly flavor – Finding meals everyone will eat can be a challenge, but beef is always a win in our house. Whether you’re serving a baby starting solids or a toddler learning to use utensils, beef can be prepared and served in ways that are appropriate and safe for every life stage.
  • Nutrition – Along with great flavor, beef provides:
    • High-quality protein- Helps your body build and maintain muscle.
    • Vitamins B6 and B12- help your body turn food into the energy it needs to perform its best.
    • Heme iron- A form of iron that is absorbed efficiently and supports oxygen transport throughout the body.
    • And many other essential nutrients that support the whole family.
