Make room on the grill, Maryland, and join America in a sizzling celebration this summer as United We Steak.
Meet Maryland cattle farmer, Scott Barao of Hedgeapple Farm in Buckeystown, Maryland. Hedgeapple Farm produces high-quality beef for sale through an on-farm market and serves as a model of regenerative, pasture-based, beef cattle production in a highly urbanized environment. Environmental stewardship and advanced conservation practices help to reduce the farm’s overall impact on the surrounding ecosystem and ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay. Scott takes pride in the fact that the many resources at Hedgeapple Farm - water, land, plants, animals and a variety of wildlife - coexist because of the farm's conservation-minded stewardship not in spite of our farming operation.
Maryland has over 170,000 cattle but they are a national leader in supplying blue crabs and soft clams. In fact, fifty percent of the total blue crab harvest in the United States is provided by the Chesapeake Bay.
